my bank screwed me while i’m traveling 🙃

hey friends i’m sorry i’m just Begging for money but like…my mother tried to mobile deposit a $200 check for me while i’m traveling and can’t do it myself, and PNC fucked me over.

my bank cleared the check, made the funds available in my account, and then canceled the full amount four days later with no explanation or notification, overdrafting me by $118.69.

the withdrawal will clear tomorrow and i think the overdraft will process, triggering another $34 fee and then $7 each day the account remains overdrawn for the next two weeks (while i’ll still be traveling), meaning PNC has decided to charge me $134 with no explanation, and until i fix this i have no money to, like, feed myself and my partner while we’re traveling.

i’m about to get on the phone with customer service trying to resolve it but it looks like they’re going to tell me to screw myself until i get back home and can resolve this in person.

also july rent is due on the 3rd 🙃🙃🙃

anyway if any of y’all can help me through this i would be so fucking grateful. i’m furious with my bank and, like, really don’t know what to do.

i wish more people understood that when you look at a law against gay sex that targets gay men and not lesbians, your conclusion actually shouldn’t be that lesbians didn’t/don’t face violent consequences for existing in those circumstances lol

like i think there’s a fundamental breakdown here where lesbians and bi women talk about how men and straight people just don’t acknowledge the legitimacy of womanxwoman sexuality, and gay and bi men hear this as “gay women don’t face consequences for their sexualities” but what they should hear is that in fact, any affirmation of our sexual identities is punished and trampled over precisely because we’re not afforded the agency to exist in this way. too many gay and bi men think we deal with homophobia lite, and too many straight women think we deal with womanhood lite, when in fact those issues coexisting is painful and shitty and we could use a little compassion every now and then.

^^^^ this is so important. Also when talking about facing violence for being gay— the violence lesbians and bi women faced historically (and today) is often minimized, forgotten, or not acknowledged as violent homophobia because it most often takes place within the context of an abusive relationship instead of in the context of being assaulted on the street. Lesbians and bi women have faced violence for their sexualities just as men have, it just hasn’t been seen as important significant violence because violence against women is never seen as ‘real’ violence the way violence against men is

anti-sodomy laws didn’t exclusively target men. there are no laws that target gay men and not lesbians because trans lesbians are considered gay men by these laws. it is true to an extent to say that the lives of men are regulated by the state while the lives of women are regulated by the family but this analysis is inadequate as soon as we consider the ways that trans women are considered both within and outside of both of these categories.

and the targeting of trans women was not an accident of these laws. trans women were the target. these laws were about trans women. homophobia has always been about trans women. fear of gay men has always been fear that they might not be men at all. your analysis is shit if you dont acknowledge that.

i have seen it said that sex between cis women was never legislated against because to do so would be to acknowledge that it could happen, that women who loved women existed. i dont know if that’s true. i dont know if you believe that’s true. but my point is this - they found a way to legislate against us without acknowledging that we existed. and you’re still falling for it.

this post is exactly what trans women are talking about when we say that cis lesbian tumblr’s inclusiveness of us is totally shallow. you are not actually thinking about us. we do not figure into your world view. the irony of @closet-keys  bringing up the way violence against lesbians and bi women is erased and forgotten, while this post erases decades of violence against trans women is not lost on me.

like it just amazes me that you can both specify being against transmisogyny in your bios while continuing to use “lesbian” and “women” in ways that so obviously exclusively refer to cis women. that you could so totally forget about us in a conversation about legislated violence in a political climate where these same kinds of laws are once again being drafted and passed, except now they’re naming us specifically. it’s unbelievable. what a shameful omission.

the same sex marriage legalization in the czech rep is finally being brought up & thats obviously a good thing but i need you to know what a MESS it is. like atm we dont even have stable government, our prime minister is under police investigation & the deputies who proposed the bill come from all kinds of political parties like there is no ‘left and right’ distinction its literally like the parties dont even matter atm. there is just a bunch of ppl throughout the czech political spectrum who made this proposition and their other party buddies are heavily against it so like. its gonna be a wild ride.

Not to mention the other half of the fucked up government se have want to put into the constitution that marriage means only man And a woman, which would put us back to step one, after decades of fight that started back in 1890’s

It is fucking wild!

Tho that thing about it not being a “partisan” issue so to speak is due to how it has been introduced, the #jsmefer campaign is like, a civil/non-governmental effort and they have done individual lobbying afaik from the start? Like they met individual representatives and talk to them.

It makes a lot of sense, bc I think they rightly figured out none of the current parties would give it priority. I actually really like a lot of things they are doing.

And the KDU-ČSL was a reaping of the fruit they grew. It went badly! Ppl laughed at that man/woman proposal, citing arguments developed by the campaign!

It’s interesting to look at that situation in comparison to key Trans* policies like self-determination where the vibe is… People don’t even understand that’s a thing? Lot of work before us!

@nicesweater thoughts?

not much that hasn’t been already said I guess.

you are completely right, it is a “non-partisan” issue intentionally and because Jsme fér chose the strategy they did. they lobby effort is based on meeting representatives and explaining to them what the issue is, not contacting them as a party or as a group. they also have this petition thing but that’s part of the campaign, to show there is support for marriage equality (and as polls show, there is!) imo, so they meet with people from the regions of the country and talk to them, have them sign the petition… so it’s not a weird Prague thing and I love it!

the conservative deputies/KDU-ČSL facebook fucked up, like Čižinský, who also signed it, is in deep shit bc of it (not people like Kalousek though, because nobody would expect him not to sign it). people see the campaign and respond to it and it is beautiful.

now onto the trans issue - I’m not sure I can say anything new that is not uh, a secret yet, but some deputies support equal marriage in the Chamber but don’t understand shit. they only support it bc they met the lobby people! and when those people hear about self-determination, they mix it all together and think Ohh those gays want something more ?!?! but pregnant men ?!?! so we are working out a strategy but I’m not sure I should blog about it you know?

people don’t know that trans people are people that are all around them and they don’t know about the issues we face, so if we made a poll about self-det I think we would fail badly. but maybe with a lot of patience and explaining we can get there and people will defend us on social media and I won’t have to do it!

you wouldn’t find much about public representatives’ approach to trans people (but lmao I can guess), but there was a discussion held by the public defender of rights and in there you kinda figure out what people from the most relevant ministries think and want. it is important to remember though, that there are many people at those relevant offices… but it tells you a lot about the ministry when they send a super conservative person to represent them

in Czech only

Oh yeah let’s keep secret things secret ;) I was talking about this with V. Yesterday and when we take aside like the apocalyptic fears (not unfounded but Yk) what we are left is with -

I don’t think ppl understands that *self-determination* is like an actual thing? Like a process available in multiple countries (which didn’t spontaneously cease to exist).

I think self-determination exist in public imagination only as “so we’ll just choose our gender now?” somewhere on the level of “so we’ll marry dogs next?” which on one level is bad, but on the other it’s not bc it’s an open field? Idk.

Like if ppl even know trans ppl exist the average level of knowledge is like

1. Be rly sad bc you’re in the wrong body

2. ???

3. There’s a doctor here somewhere

4. ???

5. PROFIT/yay, you’re cured!

I’m not like a strategist, Yk ;), but I think this level of knowledge poses an interesting challenge!

memeception

WE’VE HIT TERMINAL MEME

@caesarianconfection

I’ve said “I hate this” so many times on this website, and never actually meant it, because “I hate this” is just shorthand for ‘this is an example of a meme given a twist I wasn’t expecting with intent to surprise’. Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it.

But this… This is something else.

The rapidity of a meme’s introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, you’ll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. It’ll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeare’s jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind.

For the love of fuck, how do you explain loss.jpg? How do you explain gun?

….I THOUGHT THIS WAS A YMCA REFERENCE

it is a YMCA reference - that’s one of the 6 memes being represented here

ok let me see if i can break this down easily. YMCA is the easiest place to start - the song itself has become a meme over time with people changing the lyrics to reference other pop cultural events. so YMCA is meme one (1)

this first lyric replacement (”take the breadsticks and run”) is a reference to the tumblr meme ‘stuffing breadsticks into my purse’. i think everyone remembers that one so i wont bother to explain it. that’s meme two (2)

“man door hand hook car door” is a meme of its own, a creepypasta from i dont remember when. it was a terrible stupid retelling of the generic ‘stuck in a car while hook handed man tries to kill us’ story so the stupid title caught on for memorability. that in and of itself is meme three (3)

‘gun’ is… yeah i dont know how to explain gun. long story short you add gun to the end of a phrase instead of what you expect the last word to be. its shock funny. its everywhere but its popular to add to “man door hand hook car door” for.. some reason? gun is meme four (4)

and the thing is, this four meme combo is something thats gone around before. meme combos are, itself, a meme. which means taking this meme combo and mixing in another meme actually becomes meme five (5)

which leaves us at loss.jpg. loss.jpg was a terrible bad comic supposed to be about some tragic event, but it was presented so poorly literally no one takes it seriously, and for some reason recreating the four-panel setup has become popular. so thats meme six (6)

(but i need to add that this is the greatest version of loss.jpg i think i’ve ever seen. the initial ‘young man’ lines up with the guy bursting through the door, and the shock meme ‘gun’ matches the shock scene of the woman in the hospital and idk if OP even thought about that but it makes this just so much better)

I wasn’t going to reblog this, but @pagesofkenna‘s comprehensive meme-by-meme annotation is a thing of beauty and should be shared.

average tumblr post contains one meme, this post, which contains six, is an outlier and should not be counted

it might also just be a coincidence due to loss.jpg’s format but the whole white minimalist four-panel setup is also suspiciously reminiscent of those early 2000’s rage comics

I was getting a political compass vibe too

tag urself im man door hand hook car gun

This works better than I thought it would.
